No-Sew Apron

No Sew Apron

If you don't like to sew, or don't have a sewing machine, this the perfect project for you. The No Sew Apron is very easy to make and it is a great project to make with novelty or seasonal fabrics.

Supplies:

  • 7/8 yard cotton novelty or holiday fabric
  • 1/2" wide fusible web strips
  • 3 yards of cording or 5/8" gro-grain ribbon
  • Water erasable marking pen
  • Optional: One print square for pocket with 1/2" allowed at sides and bottom, and 1" at top edge
  • Iron at dry setting, and ironing board

Directions:

  • Cut fabric 28" long and 22" wide.
  • Fold under and press 1/4" on all edges of the fabric.
  • Turn under another 5/8" on all edges and press.
  • Press 1/2" fusible web strip between pressed edges and press again.
  • Fold apron in half lengthwise to find the top center.
  • Measure 3-1/2" from center in each direction and mark with a dot.
  • Measure down 9" on top side edges and mark with a dot.
  • Make a diagonal fold from top edge dot to side edge dot, pressing fabric to back on each side. (This will form the casings for ties.)
  • Mark and trim casing on each side to 1-5/8" wide.
  • Press under 1/4" on the raw edge of the casing.
  • Fuse edge with a 1/2" strip of fusible web positioned close to pressed edge. Press edges together.
  • Finish side and bottom edges of pocket by pressing 1/2" to the back of the pocket and inserting 1/4" fusible web strip close to raw edge. (Use a 1/2" strip cut in half lengthwise.)
  • Finish top edge by pressing 1/4" to the back and then pressing another 3/4" .
  • Insert 1/2" fusible web strip and press edges together.
  • Position another 1/4" fusible web strip on the side and bottom edges of the pocket. Press pocket in place on the front of the apron, as desired.
  • Thread a 3 yard cord or ribbon through the casing forming neckband and tie ends. (Start the threading process on one side and go up through the diagonal casing, then through the front neckline casing, and down through the remaining diagonal casing on the other side.)

Have fun cooking with your new apron!
